I am a biochemist and entrepreneur, working in the field of drug discovery and early development. I started my career in Glaxo (now GSK), where I established structure-based drug design and led a broad range of discovery technologies. I then moved as CEO to the structural chemo/bioinformatics company Inpharmatica. In 2007, along with Chris Tate, Richard Henderson and Fiona Marshall, I co-founded Heptares as CEO and after its sale remained as head of research and development until 2022. I am strongly interested in the molecular biosciences and their application to find new medicines.
I am a Visiting Professor of Biochemistry at Imperial College London and have honorary DSc degrees from ICL and the University of Hertfordshire. I am an Honorary Member of the British Biophysical Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and was a co-recipient of the 2015 Royal Society of Chemistry Malcolm Campbell Award for Biological Chemistry. I am Executive Chairman of Kodiform Therapeutics, which was co-founded by Terry Rabbitts and Angela Russell, the former an LMB alumnus.
