Facilities
The LMB includes a purpose-built facility offering 27,000 m² of world-class workspace. There are four laboratory wings, each with three main floors, connected by a central atrium and communal areas. The building accommodates over 800 people, comprising 550 scientists, including researchers from the University of Cambridge’s Molecular Immunity Unit, and 270 technical and support staff who play a key part in supporting the LMB’s research. To encourage collaboration, laboratories are arranged in 1,000 m² semi-open modules with workbenches, write-up areas, offices, and equipment rooms.
Extensive space is dedicated to the LMB’s centralised state-of-the-art scientific facilities. Run by experienced scientists who support large-scale projects and collaborations across the LMB, the facilities provide access to advanced technologies and expert training, enabling efficient, cutting-edge research. The facilities are open to all staff from PhD students to Group Leaders. This fosters collaboration, reduces costs and supports innovation without usage fees.
