The mission of my research is to understand how neural computations and behaviour arise from neuronal circuits. Our focus is on understanding how neuronal circuits are wired and connected to enable action selection, execution, and refinement. Our approach is to develop and apply tools for ‘functional connectomics’: combining behaviour, activity imaging, comprehensive structural microscopy, machine learning, and modelling to reveal relationships between neuronal network structure and function.
My work at the LMB will seek to uncover organisational principles of neuronal circuits across species. A key technical aim of my work will be to make connectomics more accessible by developing affordable and scalable methods for data acquisition, processing, and analysis. This includes innovations in sample preparation, imaging, and automated reconstruction pipelines to lower cost and increase data generation and analysis throughput.
