
Work Experience
LMB work experience placements provide hands-on experience of working in an academic research institute to school-aged students, with priority given to those from underrepresented backgrounds.
Placements may be within an LMB research group, scientific facility or support service, highlighting the variety of roles that underpin our cutting-edge research.

Work Experience Placement Details
Placement length
- The advert for each placement will confirm the duration.
- Placements typically last for one or two weeks, usually in July and August.
- Placements take place during usual working hours (9:00-17:00).
- If selected, you will be expected to attend all days of the placement.
Food and travel expenses
For all students who applied to an advertised work experience placement via our website, we will cover reasonable travel expenses and offer a voucher to cover food and refreshments (approximately £5 per day) throughout the placement.
Meet Our Work Experience Students

Year 12 Rotation Placement
Ten students completed a one-week rotation placement gaining hands-on experience in laboratories and facilities and insights into scientific careers.

T Level Placement
A local Laboratory Sciences student completed a nine-week rotation work experience placement in different scientific facilities.

Year 10 Genotyping Placement
Four students gained hands-on lab experience in a one-week placement with the LMB’s genotyping team.
